I started toward architecture while swinging a hammer, became a union commercial carpenter and millworker, and spent years as a trade-show carpenter — still my favorite work. Along the way I ran a job shop as general manager, moved and modernized a manufacturing plant, estimated and managed trade-event builds, and led sales and project management for a manufacturer.
